Ask An Empowering Question
It’s advice that’s scalable from inconvenience to tragedy.
It stands to reason that the questions you focus on answering can make the difference between coming through a challenge with grace or getting even deeper in the weeds. It’s important to reflect on how you ended up where you are, of course, and sometimes, answers to questions like “Why me?” can provide some insight, but it doesn’t usually provide a path forward. It only shows you where you have been. More often than not, answers to these questions will lead to a shame spiral and feeling of blame and inadequacy, so deeper into the abyss instead of out of it.
Our brains are designed to seek answers so let’s give them helpful questions to work on. What happens when you ask, “How can I help?” or “How can I show up?”? Empowering questions have action steps as answers. They set things in motion. They help solve problems. Asking empowering questions can help to make the struggle a little less overwhelming.
